The 22nd year of my life has started. I took out Kii Kalira to dinner on the day of my birth. It is the strangest thing, but she did not appear to realize why. Perhaps she forgot..? She also recently spent some time with a tarutaru friend of hers - I have met her before, but it appears I did not remember to mention it in my journal - and acquired the final item for the task Isacio gave us. She has grown much stronger. I am happy for her success, although I have a feeling I will be reprimanded for being late now.
There was a little misunderstanding on the day after my birthday. A concerned citizen thought the water in the sluice gates had been poisoned, and asked for my help. Having just recently met Novalmauge in Bostaunieux, he immediately came to mind as someone who could know a way to prevent this disaster from happening. I asked him and he acquiesced to make a poison neutralizer. But upon delivering it to the person, it had already been discovered that the scare was merely that - a scare.
My mind yearns for new adventure again. The areas we have frequented recently are always the same. I think we will leave for Jeuno soon. In the meantime, we took a look around Carpenter's Landing. Despite being so close to home, I had never been there before. The area is not the most pleasant of places, it suffers from nearly constant mist or rain. One must be careful about where to step in that place.
Kii Kalira has seemed restless recently. I think she has been caught up in the adventuring fever. It is admittedly slightly amusing, seeing her chatter on. And I do not mind, adventuring is what I left San d'Oria for, after all. And to be exact, that is our current location. It has only been a very short while since we left, and we aren't planning on staying for too long.
On the way from Windurst to San d'Oria, we stopped in Selbina for a little while. We came across this old man by the sea, Isacio by name. Somehow, we got to the subject of adventuring. He has agreed to teach us some of what he knows from his experience as a soldier before, if we can pass his tests. We are now working on completing the task he has set us. We will return to Valkurm Dunes once we have finished our business in San d'Oria.
It is the strangest thing. Before, walking around the Valkurm area was quite a trying situation for the nerves. But now, if I am with Kii Kalira, we do not need to worry ourselves needlessly, beyond some normal considerations for safety. It is a freeing experience. We must have gotten much stronger since we started. Leaving San d'Oria was truly the best decision I have ever made. Nothing much can be accomplished by cowering within its walls endlessly.
I have come to the conclusion that my life could be considered weird. Perhaps it needs some more structure. I have never seen so many places in the span of such a short time, separated by such great distances.
As I suspected, obtaining beastman blood for the man Novalmauge was no great task. Although when I brought him the vial, he was thankful enough to explain his situation to me. Apparently, there is a sickness that makes you react strongly and violently to the light of the sun. I have never heard of such a thing before, but it certainly explains the rumors about this man being a vampire. As often happens, the rumor turned out to be not entirely true, but rather based on it.
While walking near the south Auction House with Kii Kalira after delivering the blood, we came across this strangest frank mithra lady. She inquired if we were adventurers, and then told us to deliver a letter to her grandchildren in Windurst. These two people are called Elen and Liili Chocola, Elen Chocola apparently has a rarab farm somewhere in the city. Kii Kalira did not seem too pleased with this, but nevertheless, we accepted the task she set for us. The mithra disappeared before we had a chance to refuse, and I had already taken the letter into my hands.
One thing amazes me. The woman talked of grandchildren. She did not appear to be old at all. Maybe mithra, like tarutaru, do not age like we do? I must remember to ask this from Kii Kalira some time. Hopefully she will not be too offended by the question. Lately, it seems like she has been more temperamental than before.
We left for Windurst the very next day. We are now quite accustomed to traveling, and the journey was faster than ever. Inquiring after the two sisters in Windurst brought us to the right people soon enough, and we delivered the letter to their hands. I have a feeling they were not too happy to receive it. Perhaps it brought bad news?
Once again, the events have run past me with overwhelming speed. The life of an adventurer can certainly be a fast-paced one, leaving hardly any time or interest for the likes of writing in a journal, no matter how enchanting it can be to read about these events afterwards.
After the Harvest Festival ended, I and Kii Kalira left Bastok with the intention of making our way to San d'Oria again. That is indeed where we are at the moment, having finally reached it after many battles. We were held up a little in Valkurm Dunes, trying to make our ways across without attracting too many goblins. Perhaps it is merely because our memories are faulty, but every time I pass the area, the goblins seem to have multiplied.
Life in San d'Oria seems much like it ever has been. Every time I come back, I notice nothing has changed. In a way it is comforting, but recently it has also started bothering me. Is it not so that without change, there is no life?
The first night after coming back, I met a person looking for shaman garlic, allegedly good for warding off vampires, and that one lived in the dungeons below the Chateau. After listening to his rambles for a moment, I was convinced I would have to look into the matter myself. It was a good time to come across this rumor, for I have been meaning to visit the Chateau myself for some time now, having gained a rank sufficient for entering it. The very next day I set out. Unfortunately, Kii Kalira could not come with me, but it appears she had some business of her own in the city, so I parted with her with a slightly less burdened heart. The Chateau was magnificent, and I regret to mention that I may have stared at everything too much, for I received more than a few suspicious looks on my person.
Having taken a look at both the quarters of the Royal Knights and Temple Knights - if father only knew! - I headed down to the Bostaunieux oubliette. I looked around, and after some time came across a person who stopped me. This person, who introduced themselves as Novalmauge, asked me to bring him a vial of beastman blood. He would not explain his request. Combined with the rumors, this is somewhat confusing. The person, while pale-haired, did not appear to be a vampire. I am intending on bringing him his vial of blood, it should not be too hard to acquire.
